چکیده

In this paper we present a new method for probabilistic reasoning with true facts and uncertain rules within a deductive database. Besides a cautious approach to inferences on uncertain rules, we show a default approach for uncertainty reasoning including factual knowledge, based on the ideas of maximal context and detachment. Integrated into a database these approaches support many important applications with probabilistic value dependencies. One sample application will be provided: Lead quali cation within a marketing database.

Classification and Specification of Update Problems*

Deductive databases are based on deductive rules (views) which define the common knowledge shared by different users by allowing to deduce new facts (derived or view facts) from base facts explicitly stored in the database. Deductive databases use logic programming as a base language and generalize relational databases by overcoming the limitations of relational languages in the definition of c...

Default Databases: Extending the Approach of Deductive Databases Using Default Logic

Extending the relational data model using classical logic to give deductive databases has some signiicant beneets. In particular, classical logic rules ooer an eecient representation: a universally quantiied rule can represent many facts. However, classical logic does not support the representation of general rules, or synonymously defaults. General rules are rules that are usually valid, but o...

nowledge Discovery in Deductive Databases with Large eduction Results

Deducbve databases have the ability to deduce new facts from a set of facts using a set of rules. They are also useful in the integration of artificial intelligence and database. However, when recursive rules are involved, the amount of deduced facts can become too large to be practically stored, viewed or analyzed. This seriously hinders the usefulness of deductive databases. In order to overc...

Deductive Databases with Conditional Facts

Department of Computer Science The Wichita State University Wichita, Kansas 67260-0083, USA e-mail: [email protected] Abstract. We introduce the notion of conditional facts in deductive databases. The language used to express the conditions in the basic facts does not involve constructs used to describe the database and is motivated by its potential usefulness in expressing disjunctive facts and ...

Extended Deductive Databases with Uncertain Information

The paper presents an approach for handling uncertain information in deductive databases using multivalued logics. Uncertainty means that database facts may be assigned logical values other than the conventional ones true and false. The logical values represent various degrees of truth, which may be combined and propagated by applying the database rules. A corresponding multivalued database sem...
